FAQ: Is there one credit score? Or maybe three?
There are actually many credit scores. It is easy to think there is one FICO score or one for each of the three major credit bureaus. However, there are many FICO credit scores. There are probably 1,000 different credit scores used by different businesses. Each type of business or lender uses a different score - there are consumer education scores, mortgage credit scores, car credit scores, insurance scores, etc. Some new scores are the VantageScore recently created by the three major credit bureaus.
